The Opportunity

Grayslake Central High School is seeking its next principal. Our next leader must possess a deep respect of intertwined instructional history. Central requires a leader who can honor time-tested community traditions while deploying modern program evaluation models to optimize systems, improve student accountability, and address ever evolving educational challenges.

This leader will build upon Central’s deeply rooted philosophy, ensuring every student feels known, supported, and connected while creatively leading them boldly forward.

The next principal of Grayslake Central will be skilled in the following areas:

  • Strengthens the deep connection between Grayslake Central and the community of Grayslake; understands the intertwined history of the community and school, and values the traditions that are part of that culture.
  • Demonstrates Principled Leadership. Acts with uncompromised integrity, courage, and consistency; admits mistakes openly, models ethical behavior, and applies an intentional equity lens to systems, behavior, and instructional quality.
  • Prioritizes a resilient and steady presence. Builds consistent and authentic relationships throughout the school and community. Actively engaging with students, staff, and families to foster trust and belonging.
  • Communicates skillfully, clearly articulating decisions and consistently explains the “why.” Ensures open, two-way communication with all stakeholders, particularly staff.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of teaching and learning, prioritizing curriculum, instruction, and student outcomes while supporting innovation and real-world learning opportunities.
  • Leads with deep empathy. Recognizes that students and staff are individuals facing unique personal systemic challenges; actively listens to understand rather than respond, ensuring that all voices, especially those feeling disconnected and heard, valued and safe.
  • Advocates for Grayslake Central, effectively representing and elevating the needs of Central at the District level, ensuring the school has a strong, respected voice and equitable support.
  • Balances tradition with thoughtful innovation. Honors the school’s strong traditions and legacy while bringing fresh perspectives to address evolving challenges and opportunities.
  • Focuses on accountability for students and systems. Establishes clear, consistent expectations for student behavior, attendance, and academic integrity while addressing concerns such as absenteeism and engagement.
  • Articulates a clear vision. Sets a clear direction for the future, building coherence across initiatives, and demonstrating a sustained commitment to the Grayslake Central community.

Champion Our Learning

  • Foster a culture of curiosity and a passion for lifelong learning among students and staff.
  • Ensure learning is relevant, engaging, and authentic, with a focus on expanding career pathways, internships, and work-based experiences.
  • Promote instructional technology and cross-curricular learning opportunities to enhance the educational experience.

Cultivate Our Well-Being

  • Create a safe, seen, supported, and growing environment for all students and staff.
  • Implement and refine Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Prioritize and enhance student and staff emotional supports and well-being initiatives.

Steward Our Resources

  • Demonstrate effective financial stewardship by utilizing resources to prioritize student learning.
  • Ensure equitable access to all district programs, facilities, and learning opportunities for every student.
  • Collaborate with staff to strategically allocate personnel, time, and materials to achieve school improvement goals.

Engage Our Community

  • Actively collaborate with the entire school community as partners in learning.
  • Foster trust, transparency, and collaboration through frequent, open communication with families and community members.
  • Tell the story of students, staff, and school to cultivate a sense of pride and belonging.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement.
  • Qualified teacher evaluator as defined in the Illinois School Code.
  • Successful administrative experience, with preference for experience as a secondary school principal, associate principal, or middle school principal.
  • Demonstrated excellence as an educational leader with strong organizational, problem-solving, and human relations skills.
  • Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership or a related field preferred.
